“The awareness and money raised through the VANLELES Sahara collection will support women survivors of war in some of the most dangerous places in the world to rebuild their lives. I am so grateful to Vania for her support of our work.”
Brita Fernandez Schmidt, Executive Director, Women for Women International – UK

Vania Leles has an unrelenting desire to create fine jewellery in the most ethical and responsible way possible. Both her West African heritage and growing up with first-hand knowledge of the gemstone trade have imbued her with a sense of true compassion.

It is in this vein that VANLELES created Sahara, a fair trade gold and ethical diamond collection in support of Women for Women International. Vania has also collaborated with Gemfields, the world’s pioneer of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones, creating ‘Legends of Africa’ – a unique high jewellery collection that pays homage to her homeland and its heritage. In addition, she has created ‘Out of Africa’, a one-of-a-kind high end jewellery collection crafted solely from responsibly sourced rubies and rubelites from Mozambique’s Montepuez mines.

“The true beauty and highest value of jewellery shouldn’t start at the shop floor. It should start with where it all begin, so for me that’s at the mines and the surrounding communities. My intention has always been to bring the voice of Africa to fine jewellery, and part of this is ensuring that, where possible, I source gems from Africa and from mines that adhere to environmental, societal, human rights, labour and production responsibilities and above all, mines that pay local taxes and treat miners with fair wages.”
